How to get your business noticed on social media

Posted on 16 January 2020

Since starting up we have grown from 0 likes to just over a massive 300 (that was sarcasm by the way…). This isn’t massive but we provide websites to businesses. It would probably be easier if we were providing services to the public rather than businesses.

It’s just the way it is. Since we started we have found some ways to increase likes.

Groups

Joining groups – relevant ones. This helps in that by answering questions and referencing your page you attract more people to potentially like your page. One thing we have found that has gradually picked our likes up is the group “Businesses in Hampshire”.

We joined them a while ago and every Friday they have this thing called follow Friday. It’s a post where a lot of the businesses comment with a link to their page and get likes. Of course the more likes you have the easier it is to get likes. Why? We’ll get to that in a second.

Content

We haven’t ever produced much content but recently we have had a dedicated person working on our social media content.

Some of this content is a duplicate from the week before but generally every day we’ll have at least one post. Funnily enough this increased our likes over the last month by about 100. All things considered, that’s not bad.

Thing is with content is if people think your page looks dead the chances are they may assume your business is dead 😮

Sharing

This is why it’s easier to get likes when you have more likes. For every person that likes your page that’s one more person that may see your content and share it. How do you create share-worthy content?

First you need a rough idea about your audience (in this case your likes). That will give you an idea on what is appropriate. This could be some sort of Article, Joke, Meme, just look around at what everyone else is sharing and that should give you some pointers.

Linking

Everywhere… you want to show people you’re on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, Etc. You want it on:

  • Letter headers/footers
  • Website header/footer
  • Business cards
  • Leaflets
  • Blog posts
  • Stationary
  • Vehicle signage
  • Everywhere

That way no matter where your customers are they can find you on social media.

It’s important to note that there are many ways, some smart, stupid, expensive and social media is not always the be-all and end-all especially if your type of business generally doesn’t attract much in the way of customers from social media in the first place.
